The extended finite element methodhas been one of my main research subjects for the past six years. You can find more information in the [Research] section of this web page. Modeling hundreds and thousands of cracks with the extended finite element method [pdf]Thanks to an optimized mesh database by Cyrille Dunant, modeling hundreds of enrichment features such as voids, inclusions, cracks, shear bands, cohesive zones, etc. becomes seamless and very efficient.

Damage tolerance assessment of complex industrial structures with extended finite element methods and level sets (funded by the Federal Aviation Administration 1998-2003)By coupling the extended finite element method with commercial codes, we were able to assess the damage tolerance of complex structures, such as the Boeing 757 EE Access door, a cast, monolithic safety critical aerospace component. We simulated the propagation of cracks in three dimensions, and coupled this damage tolerance assessment to casting simulations and non-destructive simulations.
